What Would Your Life Be Like without the Book of Mormon?

In the October 2017 General Conference reminded us of the importance of the Book of Mormon by reiterating President Monson’s encouragement to study and ponder the Book of Mormon. He asked us three interesting questions:

  1. What would your life be like without the Book of Mormon?
  2. What would you not know?
  3. What would you not have?

I got to discuss these in Elders Quorum today, and felt I should share a few things here.

  1. The knowledge found in the Book of Mormon has brought a great deal of peace to my life. Without this knowledge so may unanswered questions would make life seem so much more uncertain.
  2. I wouldn’t know a lot about gospel principles that are further enhanced and clarified over what we know from the Holy Bible. The confusion found in the world about the gospel is undone for those who have studied and understood the Book of Mormon.
  3. Without the Book of Mormon, wouldn’t have the blessings of the Priesthood in my life. I wouldn’t have knowledge that brings peace to my life. I wouldn’t have clear direction and purpose in my life.

I agree with President Nelson when he said:

Immersing ourselves regularly in the truths of the Book of Mormon can be a life-changing experience.

The Book of Mormon provides the fullest and most authoritative understanding of the Atonement of Jesus Christ to be found anywhere.

…as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions—every day. I promise that as you ponder what you study, the windows of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and direction for your own life. I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day…

I testify that Joseph Smith was and is the prophet of this last dispensation. It was he who, through the gift and power of God, translated this holy book.
